Pakistan Brutal Attacks Protest Messages sent to President Musharraf and to the Governor of Punjab

RESOLUTION OF PROTEST

The undersigned wish to express:

Our deepest indignation at the brutal assaults suffered by the Pakistani movement: Berozgar Naujawan Tehrek (Unemployed Youth Movement), carried out by more than a hundred fundamentalists belonging to the Islami Jamiat Tulba, in Anarkali Street of the provincial capital of Lahore.

During the assault on the comrades, in spite of having the authorization of the local police, which was present throughout and did not do anything to prevent it, something which demonstrates the clear link of the fundamentalist groups, acting as a shock force against the organizations of the left, with the State of General Pervaiz Musharraf.

We demand the immediate arrest and the disbanding of the fundamentalist reactionary groups. We join in solidarity with the comrades who have been assaulted and with the exemplary struggle that they are carrying out with their campaign Undemployed Youth Movement.

Concerning events in Lahore

Dear Sirs!

I have recently heard about the dramatic events in Lahore whereby nearly a dozen of left activists were attacked today by islamic fundamentalists on the street, just during the registering of unemployed young people. The police, observing the whole attack, did not intervene to hold the fundamentalist gang back but let them to beat the left activists so bad that they had to be brought to hospital. That is another good example of the working together of police and the islamic fundamentalists against political opponents. it fits into your totalitarian regime of oppressing any voice from the opressed layers. Two days before, you "worked" with the fundamentalists together, yesterday you "fought" them in the name of american imperialism and today you are working obviously againg with them against the workers and unemployed movement. That is the regime of Pervez Musharaf AND the islamic fundamentalists, two of the most reactionary elements on the sub-indian continent.
It would be a joke to ask you to punish the responsible police officers and this rotten gang of fundamentlists.

Honourable sirs,

I have received a report which I append below concerning some activists who were beaten by Islamic fundamentalists. Perhaps the most disturbing element to the report is that police were present at the time and appear to have done nothing to prevent this crime.
Can you please inform us how such outrages are allowed to occur?
Humbly yours

General Musharraf,

I strongly protest and condemn the attack on the organizers of Berozar Naujauan Tehrek while the police stood by and did nothing to protect their
rights.
It seems this kind of violence was planned ahead of time and your police knew about it and let it procede. Those that committed this assault should be
held and the police should discharged.
We in North America support our comrades in this struggle and stand by them in their resolve.

Dear sirs:

I am astonished that your police forces allowed the terrorist attack by Islami Jamiat Tulba, an Islamic Fundamentalists organization, upon the Berozgar Naujawan Tehrek (Unemployed Youth Movement). Even though this event was held with the due permission of the local police, your police were present at the scene and watched the attack.

Unless something is done by you to repudiate such actions and to punish such action by your police, I can only conclude that this act of terrorism was state sponsored.

Unless you proceed to guarantee the safety of these people and the Berozgar Naujawan Tehrek to conduct lawful activities and condemn the terrorists; then these people will be within their lawful rights to arm and organize for their own self-defense against these attacks.

Sincerely yours,

Dear President Pervaiz Musharraf;

I write to protest the brutal attack on Saqlain Shah, Yasar Irshahd, Hinna Zain, Shahida Jabeen, Abid, Fahad Butt, Rehan, and Sumera as they were registering the unemployed. I have learned that they were beaten so badly that they had to be hospitalised immediately after the attack

I understand that they were engaged in registering the unemployed youth under the banner of Berozgar Naujawan Tehrek (Unemployed Youth Movement) at the registration camp on Anarkali street. Is this a crime in Pakistan? I understand that the registration event was held with the permission of the police and that police were present at the scene of the attack.

Peace activists in the U.S. strongly condemn this attack.

Sincerely,
