Why we are Joining the WIL We're proud to reproduce this letter by four new comrades from San Francisco, in which they explain why they have decided to join the Workers International League.
Protest at Republican Candidate's Fundraiser Featuring Laura Bush On May 19th, protesters gathered outside a $500 a plate fundraiser dinner being held at the Biltmore Hotel in downtown Providence, RI. The fundraiser was for Lincoln Chafee, the incumbent Senator, who was the only member of the GOP to vote against the war on Iraq. Chafee is not running primarily as an anti-war candidate, but rather as a "moderate" imperialist, with the aim of finishing up one adventure before embarking on another...
USA: the Statistics That Shock Capitalism cannot provide a decent living to everyone, but as long as it guarantees significant layers of the population a reasonable standard of living it can maintain a degree of social stability. Recent figures on the situation in the USA show that “middle America” is beginning to feel the pinch, a phenomenon which indicates that social turmoil will soon be on the agenda.
The Soldiers of Solidarity & Lessons from Venezuela As the important struggle of the rank and file "Soldiers of Solidarity" at Delphi continues, we can learn much from the experiences of working people across Latin America, a continent in the throes of a revolutionary process. The struggles of our brothers and sisters in Venezuela, Bolivia, Argentina, and Mexico are rich in lessons for the US labor movement.
USA: A Gust of Fresh Wind from the South There's no doubt about it: the simmering discontent accumulating beneath the surface of American society is starting to bubble to the surface. As millions of immigrant workers, their families, and supporters participated in the historic "Day Without an Immigrant", a changing mood is emerging across the country. This is the latest editorial from the US Socialist Appeal.

Undocumented Immigrants: "We Are the Working Class of America" Demonstrations and marches have been taking across the USA, but it wasn't until Chicago's 500,000 and Los Angeles' 1,000,000-plus marches that the mood really took off. Taking their inspiration from these historic and unexpected turnouts, millions of undocumented workers and their supporters turned out in droves for another wave of mobilizations on April 9th and 10th.

USA: Rally against anti-immigrant legislation in Providence, RI Although small compared to some of the other big rallies held around the United States, the rally in Providence, RI in defence of immigrant rights was significant because it was larger than the average rally in the city, and because it shows how deep the opposition to the US government goes.
USA: Massive movement of immigrants against Bush policies The move to the left that we workers are experiencing will be sooner or later reflected in the United States. The revolutions and insurrections we are seeing in Latin America, particularly in Venezuela and Bolivia, not only inspired the movements we are seeing at the moment in Los Angeles, they also mark a new period in the class struggle.
Luis Primo of the UNT Speaks to Portland Trade Unionists Following on the successful anti-war demonstration, Portland's labor and Latin America solidarity activists gathered at Carpenters Local 247 to hear Luis Primo speak on the Venezuelan National Union of Workers (UNT), trade union democracy, and the need to build a trade union movement integrated tightly with the community and society as a whole.
USA: The Anti-Immigration Law HR4437 The proposed new anti-immigration law HR4437 in the USA – "The Border Protection, Antiterrorism, and Illegal Immigration Control Act" is a continuation of a vicious cycle of lies and misery. It is a reactionary battery of additions and amendments to existing immigration legislation which effectively declares open war on undocumented workers.
Support the Soldiers of Solidarity! A new flyer from the WIL. Print these out and spread the word about the SoS' campaign of genuine class-wide solidarity against the attacks faced by us all.
Only the Working Class Can Defeat Bush "The Iraq War disaster, in which thousands upon housands of Iraqis and Americans have been killed, wounded, tortured, and maimed will continue without end until we, the American working class stop it. After all, foreign policy is the continuation of domestic policy: the “War on Terror” is nothing but a war on workers and the poor at home and abroad. We are the only force on the planet that can end this madness once and for all." A Workers' International League pamphlet.
U.S. Auto Industry in Crisis – the Case for Nationalization As the auto workers' struggle with the Big Three U.S. auto makers continues, the business pages of the nation's newspapers have been hit with troubling news about the state of the world's largest auto manufacturer, General Motors. While GM's parts subsidiary, Delphi has filed for bankruptcy, GM itself has seen a huge loss in profitability, sales and its stock tumble to the floor.
USA: Capitalism Threatens Us All The stakes are higher than ever. It's becoming increasingly clear to millions of workers that even in the "best of times", capitalism simply doesn't work anymore. The corruption, greed, and mismanagement of the system has reached unheard of proportions.

Their struggle to organize against these attacks has inspired working people internationally. We call on all workers in the U.S. and around the world, organized and unorganized, as well as the youth - the workers of tomorrow - to support their efforts 100 percent. Click ...
USA: Soldiers of Solidarity - "The Wolf is at the Door" The bosses at Delphi are offering a so-called “consensual” agreement and some in the autoworkers’ union have sent out signals they are prepared to take the bait. The Soldiers of Solidarity (SoS), a rank-and-file body within the UAW, understand that there is a lot more at stake here. Here we publish an article by Gregg Shotwell of the SoS.

Two letters on the New York TWU Strike We publish two letters commenting on the recent New York TWU strike, one from the USA and another from Venezuela. The strike has exposed once more the fact that the two main US parties, Republicans and Democrats are not enemies, but partners opposed to the working class. The strike has also highlighted the fact that in the USA there is not just the imperialist bourgeoisie, but also a might working class that is an ally of the workers of the world.
